Parent Committee
We welcome the members of our first parent committee; Sue, Michelle, Tsugumi and Vanessa. We’re thrilled to have fantastic and enthusiastic parents who want to be a part of their child’s centre by joining our Parent Committee. The Parent Committee is a great way to increase communication between parents and staff and to allow a parent’s perspective into our Centre planning. Parents can contact members of the parent committee via our email ffinfo@exploreanddevelop.com.au.

BBB
What wonderful families we have!! On a lovely Saturday morning in May many of our families came to our Busy Bee. They quickly worked through the list of jobs and all were done. Then it was time to sit, chat and have a bite to eat.
Mother's Day High Tea
Our Mums are really special, the children had made some gorgeous craft for their mums, then all our lovely Mum's came and joined us for High Tea. We cooked cup cakes and then Mum helped us to ice them before we enjoyed eating them together.

Visitors
We had an exciting time with the Fire Brigade visiting us, not only do the children love to see the big fire truck, but they learnt some really good lessons about fire safety in the home. Then we had some very special visitors in the form of 10 duck eggs; the children and their parents were able to watch the eggs break and little ducks appear. We cared for them for 10 days before they went back to their mum, but in that time all the children took turns in feeding, bathing and caring for them.
Preschool Programme and School Readiness Parent Information Evening
So many of our Possum and Wombat parents attended our Parent Information Evening. We were able to give them some wonderful practical advice on starting school from our speakers, local Occupational Therapists and Cromer Public School Assistant Principal. All parents received infomation including the updated Explore and Develop School Readiness brochure which hopefully gives parents the ability to make informed choices about their child starting school.

Grandparent's Morning Tea
We had two wonderful morning when children invited their grandparents and special friends to have morning tea with us. The children showed their visitors their favorite things to do, including doing puzzles, playing hospitals and reading books, children and their grandparents did special handprint paintings to take home. Finally we all sang songs together and said good bye.. a lovely way to spend the morning with our special family.

Frenchs Forrest turns 5
We celebrated our 5th birthday on Thursday 11th February. We decorated the Centre with balloons and steamers, and the children had a wonderful time doing birthday craft, including a big birthday cake poster. We all got to have birthday cake and sing happy birthday to Explore and Develop Frenchs Forest.
Over the past five years we have had the privilege of getting to know many local families and build a wonderful family community here. Thank you to all our families for their support and we look forward to another exciting 5 years ahead.

StEPS Program
Our children over 4 years participated in the StEPS program, a statewide preschooler eyesight screening program provided by the NSW Department of Health.
The year that was...
Jungle Jammin – 17 Feb 2009
In Feb the children were involved in a unique musical experience. Marley from West Africa bought in some traditional African drums. We learnt that they are made from cow and goat skins. Marley taught the children songs from his country and we all sang and danced along to his beats. The children then had the opportunity to play the drums themselves.
Working Bee - 1 March 2009
This was a great Saturday at the centre. Staff and parents worked alongside each other sprucing up the classrooms and garden. We popped on some tunes as the sandpit was refilled, chairs scrubbed, plants potted, a cubby deck was built and a shed put back together.
After all that work everyone released with a well-deserved cold drink and sausage sizzle.
Hatching Ducks - 14 April 2009
The ducklings came to our centre still in their eggs safe and warm under a special incubator. Over the next few days the children observed the baby ducklings hatch and then take their first few wobbly steps. All the children were given the opportunity to pat or hold the ducks. We were also able to take the ducks outside and watch them take their first playful swim.
The hatching ducks program was a wonderful hands on experience that teaches children about the cycle of life and about caring for living creatures.
Fire Visit – 7May 2009
The visit from the Fire Fighters was very exciting. They taught us about safe fires such as birthday candles and unsafe fires such as bushfires. We learnt the important emergency number 000 and how to stop, drop and roll.
After the discussion we headed out to the truck where we each took a turn climbing into the front seat and operating the hose.
Mothers Day Afternoon Tea - 8 May 2009
It’s always nice to take the time to tell our mums how much we love them. In May we invited our Mothers, Grandmothers and special friends to join us for an afternoon tea at Explore & Develop.
The children invited visitors to come and play with them and find out what their day is really like. All afternoon we painted, rolled dough, did puzzles and built with blocks. The children loved their visitors and showing off their centre.
Science Show - 8 July 2009
The Possum and Wombats were involved in a science workshop with Lisa from the CSIRO. Lisa taught us that science is about thinking, listening and looking. Workstations were set up around the room for the children to explore concepts in balance, sound, electricity and gravity.
At the end we all come together to watch Lisa demonstrate several experiments. The children enjoyed being ‘little scientists’ and we have continued to extend this interest with various experiments throughout the year.
Fathers Day Breakfast – 3 September 2009
Fathers Day breakfasts were held on the Thursday and Friday mornings before Fathers Day. Many of the Dads made an effort to ensure they dropped off that morning so they could stay for some toast or cereal and to collect their ticket for the weekly door prize.
After breakfast the Dads got down on the floor to build with blocks, play cars or share a story. What a great way for all to start their day.
Zoo Visit – 29 September 2009
Kristy from Taronga Zoo brought some friends to visit today. Annabelle the stick insect, Sparkles the python, a sleepy Koala, a bright green tree frog and Dorey the turtle.
Kristy shared her animal expertise with the children and then they had the opportunity to get up close and personal with our new friends.
Disco – 23 October 2009
This is one of Explore & Develops most popular events. ‘Bop Till you drop’ provide the DJ and the disco lights and lead the dancing. While the mums and dads socialize with drinks and nibbles. The children got down with some inspiring dance moves.
It’s a big night for everyone. Can’t wait to do it again next year!
